The Oilheating industry has been working for decades to ensure that tanks are safe. Every tank that is installed aboveground must be able to withstand a severe fire. These tanks are designed to ensure that they will not contribute to a house fire. Additionally, to ensure leaks are rare, the industry is offering double walled and fiber glass tanks. Today tanks are more attractive and provided additional safety for fuel storage. Also, tanks have a second bottom to ensure they will never leak.

With the help of the Institute for Business & Home Safety, NORA has brought the Insurance Industry and Oilheat Industry together. This venture has allowed NORA to accomplish the following:

  • Educate Insurance Agents and Underwriters about the home heating oil industry, tank storage and efforts made by the industry to improve the safety of these tanks
  • Lower Cost of Tank Remediation
  • Develop better and stronger methods of testing underground tanks
  • Fine tune Education & Training program for Tank Care
